HSS Calf of the Month

The purpose of this page is to showcase calves that demonstrate the increasing quality and diversity of Heritage Shorthorn Genetics currently being used. The Heritage Shorthorn Society is committed to encouraging expansion of the genetic base of Heritage Shorthorns by utilization of semen from quality older Heritage Shorthorn bulls. A new calf will be featured every 1-2 months on the Calf of the Month Page.

You are encouraged to submit 1 or more photos + information on a calf for possible posting on this “Calf of the Month” Page. See guidelines at the bottom of this page.

Guidelines for Submitting a Calf Photo:

1. Only HSS members can submit a photo for consideration of a calf that they own &/or bred.
2. The calf in the photo must be a Heritage Shorthorn or a Heritage-Influenced calf out of a Heritage bull.
3. The photo was taken when the calf was from newborn to 7 months of age.
4. While a person or another animal can be in the photo, the calf should be central to the photo.
5. Information to be included with the submitted photo:
a. Name of Calf, and names & registration #’s of its sire and dam
b. Birthdate of the calf, and its approximate age when photo was taken.
c. Optional: Birth weight, Transitional weight (84 days) .
d. Name of HSS owner &/or breeder and Farm/Ranch Name (if applicable).
6. Submitted photos may be used by HSS in other promotional activities about Heritage Shorthorns (with owner’s OK).
