Have you ever wondered about the accuracy of EPD statistics in the ASA (American Shorthorn Association) database as they relate to Heritage Shorthorns? A short article is now on the HSS website (in the Shorthorn Info folder) explaining what to consider when looking at EPDs for Heritage Shorthorns.

The HSS Registry database has been upgraded to include more extensive Heritage Shorthorn pedigree information and to enhance its ease of usage. (See sample pedigree at bottom of this page.) While not all Heritage Shorthorns are documented in the HSS Database, it is expanding and it’s currently the only publicly available online way to easily document or research many Heritage Shorthorns. A new Calf of the Month has been posted. The sire to this Heritage bull calf was born in 1968 and has considerable Canadian Shorthorn influence in his background.

If you are fairly new to selling or buying registered Heritage Shorthorns you may be interested to know that cattle prices for 2025 are considerably higher on average than pricing from several years ago. In last month’s HSS Newsletter we mentioned the current remarkable pricing for unregistered, grade feeder calves and market steers: Weaned calves in the 500-600# range are selling for approximately $2000.00 while finished steers headed to market are over $3000.00.
